Wow. 70% of Iraqis want the US military to go home. This is a very consistent picture. The poll numbers have always been similar during this war.
LONDON (AFP) – More than two-thirds of Iraqis believe US-led coalition forces should leave, according to a poll conducted for British television ahead of the fifth anniversary of the Iraq invasion.
The ORB/Channel 4 News survey suggested that 70 percent thought multinational forces should withdraw.

This survey was performed by ORB/IIACSS from February 24-March 5 in Iraq. Here are some similar numbers from the past which show a consistent sentiment among Iraqis:
90% of Iraqis think they had it better under Saddam than they do under the US occupation:
2/3 of the world’s population thinks the US should leave Iraq within the next year (6 months ago):
61% of Iraqis support attacks on US troops! and 71% want US troops out within a year (a year and a half ago)!

And yet, as much as we care for democracy (by the way, the Iraqi parliament has also passed a bill that demands a timeline for US withdrawal):

in Iraq on paper, we talk about staying there for a hundred years
abc/bbc/ard/nhk poll has it at 47% Polls polls polls
Fray,
Where’d you get that number from? I think you might want to check with your opthalmologist about possible dyslexia. The actual numbers from that poll under the question, “Do you support the presence of coalition forces?” shows that 73% oppose the presence of coalition forces, which is consistent again with the poll quoted in the post above.
Other interesting results from the poll you misrepresent: 79% have no confidence in US forces. 70% say US forces have done a bad job. The surge has made things worse according to 53%. 61% say security in Iraq is worse because of the presence of US forces. 51% now say attacks on US forces are acceptable (down from 61 percent a year and a half ago). The largest number of respondents said that security in Iraq would get better if the US forces left at 46% while 23% thought it would make no difference.

The report I’m citing NOT misrepresenting page 4 Coalition forces should leave Iraq now. Aug #’s= 47% Now = 38% On security page 2
Aug/now respectively. Better = 11,36 Worse = 61,26 same= 28,37. I’m looking at the whole thing in pdf.
This is the title of the one I’m looking at ABC/BBC/ARD/NHK POLL – IRAQ FIVE YEARS LATER: WHERE THINGS STAND
EMBARGOED FOR RELEASE AFTER 6 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2008
Fray,
The question you spoke of had the word, “now” in it. If you look at the polls on this issue Iraqis are consistent in saying that they want US troops out within a year to the tune of about 70% (the “nows” and the “within one years” combined). If you’re going to put apples and oranges together, you have to count both fruits.
trm Thanks. I meant no misrepresentation and was hung up on the NOW thinking not necessarily on you. I personally would like both Iraqi and US citizens to poll at 99.9999 about getting out. For my part sorry for the misunderstanding perhaps we’ll meet again.Take care
Appreciated Fray. Hasta la vista.
