This is awesome. The new National Intelligence Estimate on Iran is out and shows that the Iranians are not currently heading towards nuclear weapons! It apparently says that they have not been working towards nuclear weapons and haven’t been since 2003. I heard previously that Cheney was working overtime to change the NIE around, but it appears that his influence has been waning since the NIE on Iraq way back when and the NIE on Iran in 2005 which was essentially overturned by the current piece of work.
I’m very pleased to see that the intelligence is not being fixed to fit this administration’s policy. Hopefully the nuclear weapons slant has evaporated from their arsenal. It remains to be seen whether or not Bush et al can convince those they need to convince that we need to go to war over Iran’s so-called support of terrorism and fight against US troops in Iraq. Ah, what a nice change and defeat for the Bush Administration.
Actually the report said that Iran’s nuclear weapons program had been put on hold since 2003. That might have been due to the need to develop and build those centrifuges for enriching uranium.
We’ll just have to wait, hope and see. 😦
Naturally the Russkies have no interest in making sure their customer can’t cause them mischief. Thank God I don’t really believe them stupid.
