Israel, a partner for peace.


There is no legitimate State of Israel!


This short article makes such an important point that I just had to reproduce it in full here.  Israel’s very existence as a nation state is illegitimate!


On Monday 12 October, Prime Minister Netanyahu opened the Knesset’s winter session by blasting the Goldstone Report that accuses Israel of committing war crimes and vowing that he would never allow Israelis be tried for them. But that was not his main message. It was an appeal, delivered I thought with a measure of desperation, to the “Palestinian leadership”, presumably the leadership of “President” Abbas and his Fatah cronies, leaders who are regarded by very many if not most Palestinians as American-and-Israeli stooges at best and traitors at worst.

Netanyahu again called on this leadership to agree to recognise Israel as a Jewish state, saying this was, and remains, the key to peace. And he went on and on and on about it.

“For 62 years the Palestinians have been saying ‘No’ to the Jewish state. I am once again calling upon our Palestinian neighbours – say ‘Yes’ to the Jewish state. Without recognition of the Israel as the state of the Jews we shall not be able to attain peace… Such recognition is a step which requires courage and the Palestinian leadership should tell its people the truth – that without this recognition there can be no peace… There is no alternative to Palestinian leaders showing courage by recognising the Jewish state. This has been and remains the true key to peace.”

As Ha’aretz noted in its report, Netanyahu’s demand for Palestinian acceptance of Israel as a Jewish state is for him “a way on ensuring recognition of Israel’s right to exist as opposed to merely recognising Israel” (my emphasis). This, as Ha’aretz added, is the recognition which Netanyahu and many other Israelis see as the real core of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

In the name of pragmatism, willingness to “merely to recognise” Israel – meaning to accept and live in peace with an Israel inside its pre-June ‘67 borders – has long been the formal Palestinian and all-Arab position. Why does it stop short of recognising Israel’s “right to exist”, and why, really, does it matter so much to Zionism that Palestinians recognise this right?

The answer is in the following.

According to history as written by the winner, Zionism, Israel was given its birth certificate and thus legitimacy by the UN Partition Resolution of 29 November 1947. This is propaganda nonsense.

  • In the first place the UN without the consent of the majority of the people of Palestine did not have the right to decide to partition Palestine or assign any part of its territory to a minority of alien immigrants in order for them to establish a state of their own.
  • Despite that, by the narrowest of margins, and only after a rigged vote, the UN General Assembly did pass a resolution to partition Palestine and create two states, one Arab, one Jewish, with Jerusalem not part of either. But the General Assembly resolution was only a proposal – meaning that it could have no effect, would not become policy, unless approved by the Security Council.
  • The truth is that the General Assembly’s partition proposal never went to the Security Council for consideration. Why not? Because the U.S. knew that, if approved, it could only be implemented by force given the extent of Arab and other Muslim opposition to it; and President Truman was not prepared to use force to partition Palestine.
  • So the partition plan was vitiated (became invalid) and the question of what the hell to do about Palestine – after Britain had made a mess of it and walked away, effectively surrendering to Zionist terrorism – was taken back to the General Assembly for more discussion. The option favoured and proposed by the U.S. was temporary UN Trusteeship. It was while the General Assembly was debating what do that Israel unilaterally declared itself to be in existence – actually in defiance of the will of the organised international community, including the Truman administration.

The truth of the time was that the Zionist state, which came into being mainly as a consequence of pre-planned ethnic cleansing, had no right to exist and, more to the point, could have no right to exist UNLESS … Unless it was recognised and legitimized by those who were dispossessed of their land and their rights during the creation of the Zionist state. In international law only the Palestinians could give Israel the legitimacy it craved.

And that legitimacy was the only thing the Zionists could not and cannot take from the Palestinians by force.

No wonder Prime Minister Netanyahu is more than a little concerned on this account.

Israel’s leaders have always known the truth summarised above. It’s time for the rest of the world to know it.

The corruption of government officials, illustrated nicely in Illinois.

With the recent revelations about the brazen corruption with seemingly unprecedented scope and breadth, of the governor of Illinois (can’t spell his name), the scriptures comes to mind from the Doctrine and Covenants 121 which says:  “We have learned by sad experience that it is the nature and disposition of almost all men, as soon as they get a little authority, as they suppose, they will immediately begin to exercise unrighteous dominion.”

“Almost all men…”  Does that mean 90% of men?  95%?  What think ye?  When you look at it this way, we elect our officials to power and give them our trust to manage the affairs of this country and they are immediately exposed to lobbyists and all sorts of opportunities to abuse the power which has been given them.  Almost all men.  Does that mean that the vast majority of our politicians are corrupt?  What a dreary thing to imagine.  The governor of Illinois is apparently as corrupt as they come, but is this sort of thing rampant in our nation’s leaders?

To varying extents, I think so.  This is why it is a good thing that we have checks and balances written into our system of government.  However, checks and balances don’t work if the checkers are as corrupt as those they are checking.  In that case, it is a good thing to have an objective media to keep the government honest. 

Unfortunately, we don’t have that benefit either.  The vast majority of the media in the US is owned by big corporations.  These same corporations have agendas of their own and lobby government in their own self-interest.  Just like Chiquita Banana when they were called the United Fruit Co. which lobbied in congress in the 1950s to overthrow the popular government of Guatemala so they could continue to make their big profits down there.  The US government complied and installed a military dictatorship with shed the blood of thousands of Guatemalans.  These corporate owners of media make sure that the news they broadcast is within well defined limits.  This sort of phenomenon is well documented in Noam Chomsky’s “Necessary Illusions” and “Manufacturing Consent.”  When I lived in Seattle, the Seattle Times was a very pro-Gulf War I newspaper.  There was no question whatsoever if what we were doing was right or not.  It turns out, the Times, at that time, was 49% owned by Raytheon, the producer of the Patriot missile.  They must have made a killing in that war. 

It turns out that the owners of broadcast media (who are hugely powerful in our society) are subject to the same curse members of government are subject to.  “Almost all men” will immediately exercise unrighteous dominion and that includes all of us who have any authority or power.  Thus, we are really left without much recourse here.  

In my humble opinion, this is the situation we call a bigtime secret combination.  This is what Moroni was talking about in the Book of Ether when he said:  “Wherefore, the Lord commandeth you, when ye shall see these things come among you that ye shall awake to a sense of your awful situation, because of this secret combination which shall be among you; or wo be unto it, because of the blood of them who have been slain; for they cry from the dust for vengeance upon it, and also upon those who built it up.”  

Moroni knew that we would have this secret combination among us… much like the secret combination that overtook the Nephites in the Book of Helaman, which combination had infiltrated their entire government.  First, we need to all awaken ourselves to a sense of the awfulness of our situation.  Only then will we have the motivation to truly make change.  Perhaps the only way for us to overcome this secret combination, is to do as Thomas Jefferson suggested.

“God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion.
The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is
wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts
they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions,
it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. …
And what country can preserve its liberties, if it’s rulers are not
warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of
resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as
to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost
in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from
time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
It is its natural manure.”

Proposition 8 and Sodom and Gomorrah

So, the priesthood instructor the other day in speaking in favor of proposition 8 on the California ballot (which I voted “yes” on a week or so ago by absentee ballot) said that many civilations had been brought down by homosexuality and Sodom and Gommorah were an example of that.  This is actually a bogus point which I learned from Hugh Nibley a long time ago, but which continues to be a contention of many in my church and in other Christian sects. 
Ezekiel 16 has this to say about the sin of Sodom and Gommorah:
   49 Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.
50 And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good.
It is fairly straight forward here.  Pride and covetousness, essentially idolatry, was the great sin of Sodom and Gommorah.  No mention of homosexuality there.  Wait a minute, you say, what about the footnote for the word “abomination” there? 
The Topical Guide there indicates we are talking about homosexuality there.  Is the TG necessarily always right?  Here are other ways the term, “abomination” has been used in the scriptures:
Deut. 7:

  25 The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the Lord thy God.

  26 Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing.
Deut. 13:

  13 Certain men, the children of aBelial, are gone out from among you, and have bwithdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known;

  14 Then shalt thou enquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought among you;
Deut. 14:
  3 ¶ Thou shalt not aeat any abominable thing.
Deut. 27:
  15 aCursed be the man that maketh any graven or molten bimage, an abomination unto the Lord, the work of the hands of the craftsman, and putteth it in a secret place. And all the people shall answer and say, Amen.
Deut. 32:

  16 They aprovoked him to bjealousy with strange cgods, with abominations provoked they him to anger.

  17 They asacrificed unto devils, bnot to God; to cgods whom they knew not, to new dgods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not.
There are apparently many practices that are abominable to the Lord which include homosexuality as is indicated in Leviticus 18.  However, as we see in Ezekiel, the abomination that Sodom participated in was the great sin of covetousness and pride.  The late great Hugh Nibley taught:
The people had a great deal of sophistication and know-how. It was a world of unrest and insecurity, and the people were mean and short-tempered. But Abraham’s Canaan didn’t offer escape for long. The fabulous prosperity of the cities of the plain turned them into little Babylons. The record describes their ways of doing things, how they dealt with all strangers, taking away possessions by force; then the wrath of the Lord came upon them.
The Testament of Levi, speaking of Abraham, says that he found the same hostility elsewhere. There was world-wide cruelty, inhospitality, insecurity, suspicion wherever he went. The Bible tells us that the Jordan depression was a veritable paradise when Abraham first visited it, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 13:10). It was not surprising that “the men of Sodom were the wealthy men of prosperity, on account of the good and fruitful land whereon they dwelt. For every need which the world requires, they obtained therefrom. . . . But they did not trust in the shadow of their Creator, but [they trusted] in the multitude of their wealth, for wealth thrusts aside its owners from the fear of Heaven.” Rabbi Eliezer seems to be quoting the same source as Samuel the Lamanite. “The men of Sodom had no consideration for the honour of their Owner by (not) distributing food to the wayfarer and the stranger.” The same thing is described in Deuteronomy and the Book of Mormon. “They [even] fenced in all their trees on top above their fruit so that they should not be seized; [not] even by the bird of heaven.” The law of Moses forbade doing these mean things to the olives, the wheat, and other crops, but they did them. These were the crimes of Sodom and Gomorrah. At the time of Abraham, the people elected leaders “of falsehood and wickedness, who mocked justice and equity and committed evil deeds.” This isn’t something invented by a Jewish doctor of the thirteenth century. These are contemporary records that tell us that the wicked oppressed the weak and gave power to the strong. Inside the city was tyranny and the receiving of bribes. Everyday, without fail, they plundered each others’ goods. The son cursed his father in the streets, the slave his master. They put an end to the offerings and entered into conspiracy. This sounds like the Book of Mormon, though it was discovered long after the Book of Mormon. All manner of wickedness is described. But we don’t need to go into this sad story here.
It’s not surprising, the records tell, that travelers and birds alike learned to avoid the rich cities of the plain, while the poor emigrated to other parts. “If a stranger merchant passed through their territory, he was besieged by them all, big and little alike, and robbed of whatever he possessed.” As the Amarna letters show us, this was a world in which every man was for himself. What a terrible state of things. Being grossly materialistic, they rated the hardware high above the software.
A famous quotation recurs a numbers of times: “If a man was killed working on the tower, he was ignored. But if a brick fell they sat down and wept. Abraham, seeing them, cursed them in the name of his God” for doing this sort of thing: “Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom” (Ezekiel 16:49).

In any case, it is my belief that more than homosexuality, the great crime of covetousness and pride is more of a danger to the eternal welfare of men’s souls.  In my humble opinion, we need a heck of a lot more sermons on this topic than on the topic of homosexuality.  If we come to the point in society that we are to be destroyed, I think it will likely be due to our own pride and it will be much like how the people of Nephi were destroyed.  Pride, haughtiness, turning away from God and seeking after riches and the praise of the world… not homosexuality.

Secret combinations of our day.

Wrote a comment over at Connor’s Conundrums that I enjoyed so much that I’ll reprint it here: 

The book of Helaman teaches us that conspiracies can envelope an entire society:  Helaman 6:

  38 And it came to pass on the other hand, that the Nephites did build them up and support them, beginning at the more wicked part of them, until they had overspread all the land of the Nephites, and had seduced the more part of the righteous until they had come down to believe in their works and partake of their spoils, and to join with them in their secret murders and combinations.

On the other hand, the members of this society could be turned to do better things merely by the preaching of the word:  Helaman 6:

  37 And it came to pass that the Lamanites did hunt the band of robbers of Gadianton; and they did preach the word of God among the more wicked part of them, insomuch that this band of robbers was utterly destroyed from among the Lamanites.

The secret combination here was a way of life for an entire society, until they were all card-holding members of the Gadianton society.  I think that in most instances they were the general populace were unwitting accomplices to the very wicked men who were in power and thus the preaching of the word was able to convert them over to righteousness. 

In our day, I think we have a similar situation to what we read about in the book of Helaman.  In general, secret combinations and priestcrafts are the same thing.  That is, they seek the praise of the world, wealth and power at the expense of life.

In my studies I’ve seen numerous examples of this subtle type of conspiracy or secret combination among us.  In the 90s there was the Multi-lateral Agreement on Investment, or the MAI.  This was a secret trade agreement that was championed by the Clinton administration and very secretively planned and nurtured by the rich and powerful, and presented as “free trade” (by the way, there’s nothing free at all about the way we trade as a nation these days).  With the MAI, a corporation would have had the ability to sue a nation for the expropriation of potential income due to a law enforced (or even a law in its formative stages that hadn’t become a law yet) upon a corporation that would hurt its bottom line. 

Thus, laws like minimum wage laws, environmental protection laws etc. would be out the window.  A similar effect, but on a smaller scale, was seen with NAFTA.  There was an additive to gasoline called MMT, that Canada had outlawed since it was found to be harmful to human’s health.  MMT was also outlawed in the USA, but since the producer of MMT, the Ethyl Corporation, was US based, they only went after Canada.  They sued Canada for 251 million dollars.  Canada chose to settle with an apology to the Ethyl Corporation, 13 million dollars and to drop its ban on MMT.

You see here, how this “free trade” agreement severely affected Canada’s sovereignity and actually threatens freedom and democracy in this hemisphere.  The MAI would have been NAFTA on steroids.  It would have been a race to the bottom and there would have been no more role for the democratic lawmaking process.  Even consideration of legislation that would hamper the profitability of corporation would have resulted in a lawsuit.  These suits in NAFTA are judged by a tribunal of unelected judges. 

The MAI was killed in its formative stages because the public got wind of it and entire cities in the USA declared themselves MAI-free zones.  However, the same people continue to push for disguised versions of the same old MAI.

We learn in Ether of a secret combination in the last days which will seek to overthrow the freedom of all nations:  Ether 8:

  24 Wherefore, the Lord commandeth you, when ye shall see these things come among you that ye shall awake to a sense of your awful situation, because of this secret combination which shall be among you; or wo be unto it, because of the blood of them who have been slain; for they cry from the dust for vengeance upon it, and also upon those who built it up.
  25 For it cometh to pass that whoso buildeth it up seeketh to overthrow the freedom of all lands, nations, and countries; and it bringeth to pass the destruction of all people, for it is built up by the devil, who is the father of all lies; even that same liar who beguiled our first parents, yea, even that same liar who hath caused man to commit murder from the beginning; who hath hardened the hearts of men that they have murdered the prophets, and stoned them, and cast them out from the beginning.

It has long been these powerful corporations that have led to the murders of millions of people in our own generation.  These corporations lobby congress in the US so they can make money.  They lobbied congress in the 1950s for example, and got our government to overthrow the democratically elected and popular government of Guatemala.  The military government which got our support after that killed thousands of its own people, to the tune of an estimated 200,000 people killed… all so that the United Fruit Company could make its profits. 

This is just a small example, but these are what constitute the greatest threats to world peace and the spread of the gospel and freedom in our time.  This loose association of the rich and powerful who have us in their pockets, believing in their plans and partaking of their spoils.    They have power over governments and have the militaries of the world at their disposal, including the greatest military the world has ever known, the USA armed forces. 

Hopefully, our glossing over this very important concept taught in the scriptures will not blind us to the great danger we are in.  Truly we need to awaken to a sense of the awfulness of our situation and rid ourselves of these abominations:  Ether 8:

  22 And whatsoever nation shall uphold such secret combinations, to get power and gain, until they shall spread over the nation, behold, they shall be destroyed; for the Lord will not suffer that the blood of his saints, which shall be shed by them, shall always cry unto him from the ground for vengeance upon them and yet he avenge them not.
  23 Wherefore, O ye Gentiles, it is wisdom in God that these things should be shown unto you, that thereby ye may repent of your sins, and suffer not that these murderous combinations shall get above you, which are built up to get power and gain—and the work, yea, even the work of destruction come upon you, yea, even the sword of the justice of the Eternal God shall fall upon you, to your overthrow and destruction if ye shall suffer these things to be.

October is not a good month.

I remember just in the last decade a few events during the month of October have led to the dreadful situation we find ourselves in now.  The first was in the year 2000.  The second intifada began, actually in the end of September, but it blossomed in the month of October.  Of course, this was a natural response to the oppressive hand of the Israeli Zionist government over the Palestinian people, but nonetheless, it inflamed Arab nations and polarized the world further with many signing up to fight (by various means) against the Zionists and their backer, the USA.

The next event was the beginning of the USA’s brutal attack on Afghanistan in 2001.  I was always against that war.  Afghanistan had offered to hand over bin Laden if the USA would only produce evidence (as is the international norm for extradition requests).  The US considered it not necessary to hand over evidence and decided it would be better to bomb Afghanistan.  The bombing caused untold sufferring as millions of people were forced to flee the bombs as the cold and severe winter was starting.  The sufferring continues today with bombings of wedding parties, killing women and children and innocent Afghanistani civilians. 

In October 2002, the Senate gave Bush war powers to attack Iraq and of course Bush signed it into law, and you know what a utter disaster that has been.

Not so much and event, but a UN report came out in October 2003 which stated that 1 billion people on the earth live in slums.

In October 2004 the US pursued a murderous seige of the city of Fallujah in Iraq.

In October 2006, the Johns Hopkins report came out estimating 655,000 excess deaths in Iraq attributable to the war.

It is notable that the Dow hit 14,000 in October 2007 since now in 2008, we see it dipping below 10,000. 

The beginning of the end of the financial world as we know it occurring this October and the events of 2000 and 2001 are the ones that stand out the most in my mind though.  The collapse Babylon right now sickens me as I think of all of the people that are losing their retirement money.  Even a few days ago I felt a twisted pleasure at the writhing I perceived on Wall Street since I really don’t like the way the world is ruled by money.  However, I don’t like to see people suffer and that is what I am starting to see.  October is not a good month.  It’s a month of fasting and prayer if you ask me.  It’s a month of getting closer to God so that we can be found standing in holy places when everything around us dissappears into a puff of smoke.  I recall the words of Paul when he said that everything we can see is not real.  The only things that are real are the things we can’t see.  The mirage of the security of the world is about to go poof.  Then we shall see things as they really are.  It’s not going to be pretty so we’d better make sure we put our trust in the right place.  God bless you my brothers and sisters.

Patriotism, the last (or first) refuge of a scoundrel

In commemoration of this Independance Day weekend (for which I am a little late in writing about) I would like to bring to the reader’s mind the principle of Patriotism.  I am bothered by the display of patriotism I see in my church so often.  I am really bothered by the huge gobs of patriotism taught to my kids in elementary school so often.  They can sing the theme songs of each of the 4 branches of the military from memory.  So many of the assemblies parents are invited to make lengthly mention of military in conjunction with the “virtue” of patriotism. 

Therefore, I bring you my very favorite words on the subject from President Spencer W. Kimball of the Church I belong to, who died back in 1985 I believe.

We are a warlike people, easily distracted from our assignment of preparing for the coming of the Lord. When enemies rise up, we commit vast resources to the fabrication of gods of stone and steel — ships, planes, missiles, fortifications — and depend on them for protection and deliverance. When threatened, we become antienemy instead of pro-kingdom of God; we train a man in the art of war and call him a patriot, thus, in the manner of Satan’s counterfeit of true patriotism, perverting the Savior’s teaching:

“Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
“That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:44-45).  

Also, I would like to point out one of my favorite parts of the Declaration of Independence, written by Thomas Jefferson:



That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

Have we arrived at this point yet?  Thomas Jefferson thought we arrive at this point at least every twenty years as is evidenced in his letter to William Smith in 1787:
