Clue #1 that tells us we are not all about freedom and democracy.

A subtle piece of evidence that you are not pursuing a war in a foreign country for the democratization and freedom of that country’s people:  You refuse to aquiesce to demands from that country’s leader when he asks you to stop airstrikes in his country that are killing his electorate and their kids.

The United States said on Sunday it would not halt air strikes in Afghanistan as demanded by President Hamid Karzai after civilian deaths, and it denied using burning phosphorus in the attacks.

I wish I could say it better than my brother here, but I can’t.

I can’t either, but I’ll add my two bits worth, anyway:

As Chomsky has often reminded us, “democracy” is a code word for “favorable climate for transnational corporations.”

With no-bid contracts and “cost plus accounting,” and ever more privatization of logistics and security, the war profiteers have a very favorable climate indeed.

    A great triumph for democracy!

Chomsky’s “Necessary Illusions” (and a lot of his other works now that I come to think of it) talk a lot about this kind of stuff. I like the thought that we are all surrounded by webs of deceit, that nothing we see is really real. This works from the point of view of the official line of propaganda that we are carefully spoon fed from the time we are able to read or watch tv. It is also a useful way of looking at all of our dealings with the world as Satan has set up the perfect stage to get us to see things a certain way… just like the way that Truman was completely set up. Nothing he saw was real. The only real thing was what he felt in his heart for the girl he loved.

I think the only real things we have in this life are the relationships we have with the eternal souls around us who are gods in embryo and in varying stages of developement, most of whom cannot see that they are harming their own souls by their actions. Literally they make their spirits ill as they play the role that Satan has intended for them in the scenes he has written for them. To buck the official script is to shake yourself from the chains of hell that Lehi warned his sons about in my humble opinion. Good is bad and bad is good. We can throw physicians in jail who want single payer brought to the discussion table via a peaceful demonstration and we can allow the rich and powerful corporations to kill people by withholding medical care for the poor because of a clause in their health insurance policy. We can bear the deaths of thousands of Palestinians because they are the terrorists and allow the Israelis to steal their water and force them from their land because the holocaust happened and they are the chosen people of the Lord. We can get angry when someone offends us because that is the way we are supposed to react or we can shake off the chains of hell and love those who despitefully use us and are our so-called enemies.

I wish we could see beyond this puff of smoke that is our so-called reality. I guess in the final days, we shall see truth shouted from the housetops, but it would be nice if we could see it more clearly now.

    2 Ne. 28: 14
… they have all gone astray save it be a few, who are the humble followers of Christ; nevertheless, they are led, that in many instances they do err because they are taught by the precepts of men.
