I thought this was delicious. It is so rare that the hypocrisy of US policy in Iraq gets pointed out. Iran does a good job of that, but it doesn’t get reported that much. Check it out:
“Should the Americans’ attacks against civilians and the defenceless Iraqi people come to an end, Iran will consider their request for the fourth round of negotiations,” Fars quoted the official as saying.
It said the official was a senior member of the negotiating team with U.S. officials but did not give his name.
“Under the current conditions, with the Americans’ massive attacks on the Iraqi people in various cities, no need is felt for holding negotiations with that country about Iraq’s security,” the official said.
This speaks volumes of our doublespeak regarding Iran and Iraq. We claim Iran is arming militias and stirring up violence, but how does Iran view our involvement in Iraq? Who is the biggest military force in Iraq? Who has sent the most foreign fighters to Iraq with the deadliest weapons and the deadliest consequences? Who is meddling in Iraqi internal affairs the most? Of course we never think of the US as playing that role, but the truth is that we absolutely are playing that role. We say that Iran is the biggest sponsor of terror in the region, but has not the USA been the biggest sponsor of terror in the world overall?
Iran has called our bluff with this statement and the emperor is naked.
