Well now isn’t this special. After the wretching has ceased, I am finally able to type a bit about the new House Resolution 322, which congratulates Israel on it’s 60th anniversary and reaffirms our cooperation and firm embrace (of course leaving out a few details such as Israel’s malicious attack on the USS Liberty 41 years ago that killed many of our men and wounded the rest). It passed the House unanimously, 417-0. That just reaffirms for me that our entire government is corrupt. Here are some of the high points from the text of the Resolution:
Whereas on November 29, 1947, the United Nations General Assembly voted to partition the British Mandate of Palestine and create a Jewish state;
Ok, did I miss something here? Did the UN vote to create a Jewish state in 1947? After checking the exact wording of the resolution that created Israel (UN General Assembly Resolution 181) I found that the wording of the document mentions the phrase, “Jewish state” so many times that there can be no mistake made about the intentions of the framers. The text of the document can be found here:
However, as you recall, Harry Truman didn’t agree to this wording and wrote that the US recognizes the state of Israel and crossed out the words, “Jewish state” in the original document:
Whereas since its establishment 60 years ago, the modern State of Israel has rebuilt a nation, forged a new and dynamic democratic society, and created a thriving economic, political, cultural, and intellectual life despite the heavy costs of war, terrorism, and unjustified diplomatic and economic boycotts against the people of Israel;
There you have it right there folks. The actions taken against Israel for the last 60 years have been unjustified. That must then include the numerous UN Resolutions against Israel for the last few decades. Here’s the short list for the interested:
Whereas the people of Israel have established a vibrant, pluralistic, democratic political system, including freedom of speech, association, and religion; a vigorously free press; free, fair and open elections; the rule of law; a fully independent judiciary; and other democratic principles and practices;
Now, this is just the problem in Israel. They are not the vibrant democracy we like to think they are. A full 20% of their population are discriminated against and are treated as second class citizens with less rights and privileges than the Jewish members of Israeli society. The group of people I’m referring to are, of course, the Arabs who reside within Israel proper as Israel currently defines its boundries.
Whereas Israel regularly sends humanitarian aid, search-andrescue teams, mobile hospitals, and other emergency supplies, to help victims of disasters around the world…
While ignoring the humanitarian disaster which they have created in Gaza via their sanctions and occupation that is.
Whereas Israel has absorbed millions of Jews from countries throughout the world and fully integrated them into Israeli society;
And planting these Jews on Arab land in the West Bank as their settlements continue to expand despite world-wide (and occasional US lip-service) criticism of this flagrant disregard for international law.
Whereas Israel has bravely defended itself from repeated terrorist and military attacks since its independence;
Shouldn’t this read “Whereas Israel has repeatedly used terrorism and indeed gave birth to terrorism from the very days of its infancy, slaughtering thousands of Palestinians in the most cowardly fashion…”
(You don’t believe me? Read this article with a glass of water and call me in the morning:
Whereas successive leaders of Israel have sought to achieve peace with Israel’s Arab neighbors;
Or more likely used their not-so-secret nuclear arsenal over the heads of the regional non-nuclear NPT signators to keep a monopoly on state violence in the region.
Whereas Israel has established peaceful bilateral relations with neighboring Egypt and Jordan and has made its desire to establish peaceful relations with all Arab states abundantly clear;
As long as said Arab states move out of the way of Zionist manifest destiny. See here to find out what I’m talking about:
(3) reaffirms its support for Israel’s right to defend itself against threats to its security and existence;
Wouldn’t it be nice if we supported the Palestinian’s right to defend themselves against the much more real threats to their security and existence.
commends the people of Israel for their remarkable achievements in building a new state and a pluralistic, democratic society in the face of terrorism, as well as hostility, ostracism, and belligerence from many of their neighbors;
Need I comment on this?
Sorry, rereading this resolution has sent my intestines into reverse again.
