Clinton further displayed tough talk in an interview airing on "Good Morning America" Tuesday. ABC News’ Chris Cuomo asked Clinton what she would do if Iran attacked Israel with nuclear weapons.
"I want the Iranians to know that if I’m the president, we will attack Iran," Clinton said. "In the next 10 years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them."
Again, I ask you, why should we be doing any obliterating when Israel is perfectly able to do that by itself with their nuclear arsenal of 200-500 warheads? Clinton is obviously trying to appear really tough here before the Pennsylvania primary, but it comes off as someone who has never been a schoolyard bully before in her life suddenly trying to act the part.
The question itself is ridiculous as I’ve pointed out before since Iran doesn’t have nuclear weapons and claims to be pursuing only a peaceful nuclear energy program, confirmed by the international governing body, the IAEA. On the other hand, we, the USA, have on several occasions threatened Iran with nuclear weapons and Israel continually threatens Iran with attacks if it doesn’t cease its nuclear program which is a perfectly legal program under the NPT. Iran has never attacked anyone before while the USA and Israel are constantly attacking nations in the region. There is a real disconnect between reality and what Clinton and Obama for that matter, are talking about.
It is very ugly to speak of the obliteration of a nation. It reminds me of the jubilation over the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The wholesale slaughter of men, women, children, elderly, cripples etc.
Defense Secretary Robert Gates said he believes Iran is "hell bent" on acquiring nuclear weapons…
Gates then goes on to say that irrespective of the above quote it would be disastrous to go to war with Iran because of various issues. However, the various issues are drowned out in the noise and he has added one more sound-bite to the Iran war soup as our nation’s government continues to lead us (and we follow obediently for the most part) on the path toward murder and destruction.
