Un-democracy in action in the US Congress and in the Iraqi Parliament

Tiny Revolution has a great post about this issue.  Crocker pointed out that the renewal of the US military’s stay in Iraq is due soon and that this will be decided between Bush and Al Maliki, which means it will be determined between Bush and Bush.  However, the Iraqi Parliament has stated emphatically by majority rule, that any renewal of agreement of military occupation by the US must be passed by the Iraqi Parliament, and that the majority of the Iraqi parliament would then veto this and the US would have to leave.  This is why we gave them democracy, so they could decide these kinds of things.  I posted about this here:

Tiny Revolution has a great discussion about how our constitution states that Congress must also ratify any treaty and that the President doesn’t have the power to make these kinds of agreements by himself.  Please see the below link for this very good post.

This is somewhat consistent with past patterns: The US gives other countries democracy, then they vote against US policies, so the US denounces their process as un-democratic and then supports a new regime to take over. I’m convinced that our military won’t be out of Iraq until there’s a McDonald’s on every Baghdad street corner … I’m not holding my breath!

I guess I should also mention to readers, Ralph Nader will get our troops out on a hard 6 month deadline and force the Iraqis to make some difficult decisions.

Yes, Nader and Paul have the best get out of Iraq plans with no intentions of going after Iran.
