Netanyahu has established in his own mind and seeks to establish in the minds of all he comes into contact with that war with Iran is unavoidable with the kind of rhetoric he spewed forth in a speech yesterday. His premise was that if Iran acquired nuclear weapons, there would be no deterrent against them.
Usually, if there are two nations hostile to each other, and both have nuclear weapons, their threat to each other cancels out as both don’t want to experience a nuclear holocaust. It appears that Netanyahu thinks that Iran doesn’t possess:
“Iran will be the first nuclear state in history against which deterrence won’t work, even if the deterrent is nuclear,” Likud chairman Binyamin Netanyahu said Wednesday at an international conference titled “Russia, the Middle East and the Challenge of Radical Islam.”
He backed up this amazing claim saying:
“Nothing will stop the Iranians – not the use of force and not a fear of being hit in retaliation.”
This sort of astounding bold-faced lying and propaganda production seems to be Netanyahu’s specialty. Iran has never been shown to be pursuing a nuclear weapons program, neither now nor in the past. The NIE and the IAEA have both given Iran fairly clean bills of health with a few loose ends to tie up on the IAEA side. Iran denies seeking the A-bomb (contrary to what Pres. Bush said a while ago when saying that Iran has said that it wants to destroy Israel with a nuclear bomb), and points out our huge hypocrisy when in fact it is the USA and not Iran that is in violation of the NPT, and that it is Israel that has the only illicit nuclear weapons program in the middle-east, not watched over by the IAEA, and which it holds over the heads of the rest of the middle east which is not nuclear armed.
Amazing also is Netanyahu’s claim that Iran would blow up Israel with a nuke if it had one, without regard to the neighboring Arab nations it would kill in the process, and without regard to the recent threat of Israel to destroy Iran in the event of an attack. He apparently considers Iran to be completely irrational and without a shred of desire for self-preservation. There is absolutely no rationale or evidence for this sort of claim except for the fact that Netanyahu is merely doing what he does best: fear-mongering so that he can stir up his people and the USA to go to war.
Netanyahu also said:
“every Israeli withdrawal from territories it controls leaves room for Iranian terror to enter.”
thus justifying the twisted Zionist version of manifest destiny in which they kick all Arabs out of Palestine and neighboring lands and expand as they have always intended to do politically for the last 100 years or so. These Zionists, exemplified best by Netanyahu and his ilk, are simply put, madmen. And we can’t recognize it here in the US for all of the evidence available out there.
Netanyahu’s inflammatory rhetoric, which aims at a military solution to Israel’s fears of an Iranian A-bomb, is characterized by the Swedish Foreign Minister who said:
“It is possible to make peace without Hamas the same way it is possible to make peace without Netanyahu on the Israeli side,” Bildt said.
As you remember, Netanyahu told an American crowd the following:
“It’s 1938 and Iran is Germany. And Iran is racing to arm itself with atomic bombs,” Netanyahu told delegates to the annual United Jewish Communities General Assembly, repeating the line several times, like a chorus, during his address. “Believe him and stop him,” the opposition leader said of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. “This is what we must do. Everything else pales before this.”
