Chomsky on the missile defense system

Chomsky writes about the missile defense system that is being planned in Europe.  I agree with him in that he states that this is in effect a declaration of war.  He asks how we would feel if Russia or China or Iran erected a missile system in Mexico and Canada that would make our missiles useless in case we were attacked by a foreign power.  What we are doing there is saying that all nations are subject to us because if we don’t like what they are doing, we can attack them without the possibility of them putting up any self-defense or counterattack.  Check out his letter at:

He ends with this:

“Over half a century ago, Bertrand Russell and Alfred Einstein issued an extraordinary appeal to the people of the world, warning them that they face a choice that is “stark and dreadful and inescapable: Shall we put an end to the human race; or shall mankind renounce war?” Accepting a socalled “missile defense system” makes that choice, in favor of an end to the human race, perhaps in the not-too-distant future.”
