Israel and Iran trade threats

Originally published 11/13/06:

Israel’s Olmert continues to foam at the mouth saying that Iran should “pay dearly” for continuing its nuclear program (which is perfectly legal and unthreatening by all standards).

In the mean time, Iran replies to Ephraim Sneh’s comments (threatening military strikes against Iran) by saying that Iran would deal a “crushing blow” to Israel if Israel attacked Iran’s nuclear facilities.

I’ve got to say, that with the lack of evidence of a nuclear weapons program in Iran (just their legal energy program that the IAEA is monitoring), law has to fall on the side of Iran in this issue.

Even the oft repeated allegation that Iran wants to wipe Israel off the map is false as it has been reported as a mistranslation of the Farsi language.  He actually said nothing of the sort and has never threatened Israel in the least!

Israel’s PM did obliquely suggest presence of nukes. The story the US supplied 200 nuke-armed missiles continues to float around.

    Oops. I mean in Israel.

I think the nuclear capabilities of Israel’s nuclear weapons are fairly well established. Mordecai Vanunu, purchase of German ballistic missile submarines etc.

It should be a red flag to the average joe that we are jumping all over Iran for supposedly trying to develope nuclear weapons that there is no proof of… and yet are best buddies with Israel that has a nuclear arsenal reportedly bigger than France’s. Iran who has never in it’s existence started a war, and Israel who is continuously in violent confrontation with it’s neighbors.

Could it be that there is more to the story than our government suggests?

I trust that is a rhetorical question.

    Indeed.
