Iraqis oppose the new oil law

Nice article here in the San Francisco Chronicle about why Iraqis oppose the new oil law.  I’ve written about this before too when Dennis Kucinich came out in opposition to this obvious attempt by the US to give control of Iraqi oil to foreign corporations (mostly beholden to the US government).  There is also a nice concise recent history of the Iraqi Oil Workers Union and how the US is using some tricks from Saddam’s playbook to keep them down.

Here is an excerpt:

“Hassan Juma’a Awad, president of the oil workers federation, wrote a letter to the U.S. Congress on May 13. “Everyone knows the oil law doesn’t serve the Iraqi people,” he warned. The proposed new statute “serves Bush, his supporters and foreign companies at the expense of the Iraqi people. … The USA claimed that it came here as a liberator, not to control our resources.”
