Howard Zinn and I agree

I’ve felt the same as Howard Zinn in the past.  I’ve felt disgusted by the pledge of allegiance we teach our kids to repeat mindlessly to the flag. 

In fact I even wrote an alternative pledge one time that went something like this:

I pledge allegiance to the humanity,

of the peoples of the world,

and to the poor, extend my hand,

one world, brothers and sisters,

with dignity and respect for all.

I’ve felt that it is ridiculous that we arbitrarily set up a line on a map and tell people they can’t cross it though their ancestors have been crossing it for centuries.

I’ve felt that it is cruel and greedy to allow our filthy rich corporations to go south of the border freely while people of poverty are not allowed to cross the border freely in order to eke out a better living.
